In the fall we’re all encouraged to express gratitude for our fortunes. It’s a powerful thing to do –that’s why it has been practiced around the world for centuries.
But gratitude shouldn’t be restricted to one meal, one day, or even one month. We get to practice it every day – and we should, if we want to manage our stress, mood and focus as effectively as possible.
See, if we’re consciously grateful about some things, we can’t get too angry or depressed about others. Any time I’m feeling down or irritable, I sit down and make a list of everything I’m thankful for. Big thing, small thing… New, old… Relationship or physical object… whatever. I don’t think about it; I just write them down.
At that point, my heart is so full that my worries often drift away. The annoying things don’t seem so big anymore.
Seriously, try this as a tactic to improve peace of mind. Practice gratitude by making a list, every day if you feel like it.
Then just try not to feel better!
