Maybe you’ve heard these words from someone else. Maybe you’ve said them yourself. It sometimes feels like we hit a certain age and then everything starts to hurt, or we feel broken.
At the studio we hear different versions of this all the time!
“I turned 40 and my back started killing me. I’m at the chiropractors every week now.”
“I turned 50 and I wake up stiff every morning. I just feel old. Even bending over to put on shoes is a pain.”
“I turned 50 and feel like I can’t do the things I used to. My joints pop and complain all the time.”
“I’ve reached an age where you just expect to feel old.”
What if I told you none of this was true? What if you don’t fall apart when you age? What if you could still do at 50 what you did at 30?
What you do in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s will determine your health in your 50’s, 60’s and on!
It can be the reality because here is the truth:
You didn’t just fall apart when you hit a certain age. You started falling apart long ago and you ignored the signals your body was sending you to let you know it needed attention. Your foot hurt, and you worked through it. You had chronic headaches, but you didn’t look after it. Your back hurt after your pregnancies but you were too busy to do anything about it.
When I speak to clients about their pain and the length of time they’ve put up with it I often ask, “If it was your child in this situation would you have let them suffer this long in pain?” The answer is always no, of course not!
So why don’t we look after ourselves?
We’re busy. The kids are a priority and we usually are not. We put everything ahead of our own health and wellness to raise our families. I get it, I’ve been there too!
This doesn’t need to be your reality. You can be there for your family and do something great for yourself at the same time. You can start to move better now so that you can enjoy life later.
